Stratton Parish Council would like to say a big thank you to the grown-ups and especially the children, who put up bunting around the village to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

A bittersweet anniversary – joy at the end of the war in Europe and sadness when remembering all those men and women who made the final sacrifice, particularly those from our parish, who died fighting for our democracy and freedom.

We are again living through testing times because of the corona virus and it is hoped that the lockdown we are all enduring did not prevent residents safely enjoying the day. Comparisons with today and life during WW2 are not at all equitable but perhaps our present situation gives a very small insight of what it must have been like to live through six years of war.

Stay safe and stay well
