Regrettably, Stratton Parish Council must again cancel the ordinary council meeting due to be held on 3rd August 2021, rearranged from 20th July. Once more, insufficient councillors are available for the meeting to be quorate.  It is now hoped to be able to hold this meeting towards the end of August – date to be announced.

This situation has long been a concern for SPC.  With only 4 elected or co-opted councillors out of a complement of 7, with 2 in full time employment and the demands that entails, and 3 needing to be present for a meeting to be quorate, the possibility of there not being enough councillors available for a meeting to go ahead has loomed large for some time. Self-isolation because of Covid has, unfortunately, compounded matters at this time.

With Dorset Council instigating a consultation on a Community Governance Review, which commences shortly, and which is very likely to have repercussions for parish councils as they currently are, having insufficient councillors may not be helpful.

Stratton Parish Council would be very pleased to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a councillor. Any resident (over the age of 18 and on the electoral roll) can apply. The current electoral term ends in 2024 when the council comes up for re-election.

If you would like more information about the role of a councillor and what it entails, please contact any current member of the council – contact details are on the Stratton Parish Council’s website at www.strattondorsetpc.org.uk – or the Parish Clerk by email at clerk@strattondorsetpc.org.uk.

Please give consideration to becoming a councillor.
