Following a recent site meeting held between Highways Engineers, Stratton Parish councillors and members of the A37 group, it has now been confirmed that Dorset Council have agreed to carry out various safety works on the A37 from the south side of the railway bridge up to the road entrance to Stratton.

At present, these works are scheduled to start from the 5th October, 2020, and will include additional drainage works; resurfacing the road to give a positive texture and better skid resistance; producing a camber to allow water to drain off the road; reviewing existing hatching and line markings and studs to change the alignment of the road; tree and vegetation clearance to improve visibility; changing signage to provide warnings both on the approach to and exit from the bridge. Also included will be countdown lines on the road (but not rumble strips which are noisy) and larger chevrons to replace the existing ones.

It is not known how long this work will take or whether single road use (on the north side road) with traffic lights will be used. It is hoped that these changes will greatly improve the safety of this stretch of road and reduce the number of accidents that have occurred over the years.

Highways are confident that these proposed actions will improve the situation and will be monitoring them throughout the winter period, reviewing them next spring.

Stratton Parish Council thanks the Stratton A37 Group for their assistance and attendance at the site meeting.
