The issue of residents parking vehicles inconsiderately on roads around the village has been raised with the parish council.

Whilst highway matters come under the jurisdiction of Dorset Council and the parish council has no legal standing in highway matters, the parish council is requesting that residents park their vehicles with thought for other road users and pedestrians.

Please park considerately and avoid parking on grass verges or pavements, blocking driveways or parking too close to road junctions. While not necessarily illegal, or in contravention of existing Traffic Regulation Orders, this sort of parking can inconvenience other drivers and pedestrians and in some cases be dangerous. However, it should be noted that it is illegal to drive on a pavement or park across a dropped curb. Thoughtless parking carried out persistently can also lead to disagreements between neighbours.

Drivers must remember that parents with buggies, disabled people and wheelchair users need to be able to safely use pavements. There is also the danger that bad parking can create a blind spot or obstruct sightlines, especially when parked near a junction.

A little thought for others goes a long way
